East of the River Prom Ride – The Value of Commitment
Donnamaria Robinson Jones
Keeping the promise…
Today was all about keeping the promise. The young people from Ballou High School honored this evening kept their promise to do their best. The members of the DC Police Department promised to protect them and facilitate safe passage to their prom. The Brothers of Mecca Temple #10 promised to stand by their side and to mentor them. 5 Star Luxury Transportation promised to treat them to a very plush and upscale ride to a memorable night.
Last, but certainly not least, 2 Wheel Life Radio and the biker community promised to show up and escort the honorees to recognize and celebrate their hard work, dedication and accomplishments.
The rain was treacherous, but no storm could keep this village from keeping their promise to the students who have looked forward to this night for months. You cannot TEACH commitment! It is a VALUE learned from experience. It must be witnessed to truly comprehend.
Once again, I am humbled by the outpouring of love and support for our children. They are OUR children and they need ALL OF US! We can teach them how to read, write and count, but we must SHOW them how to LOVE. No storm can rise above that!
Bumpy Deuceville, thank you for the opportunity. My cup runneth over.
Thank you ABC 7 News – WJLA for taking the time to come out and share a very special night with us.
